So what is the Evidence for 80% plus?

The graph below shows my CORE results for the majority of the clients seen by me from end 2007 to mid 2009 (approaching 140 and since mid-2009 now approaching 200). The CORE system of evaluation is used extensively in the NHS.
  • The green dots on the green background - clients who improved significantly from the first to the final session.
  • The green dots on the white background - clients who improved modestly.
  • The red dots on white - those who scored modestly worse at the end.
  • None scored significantly worse at the end - in the red part of the graph.
The average number of sessions for each client was 3.5.

"Andrew's recovery/improvement rate is 88%, a match for the very best of national data (of all therapists nationwide for which there is data)."
"It is obvious that Andrew is not only an exceptionally compassionate therapist but a highly skilful one also, often quickly getting to the heart of the matter with clients, saving time and money."

Evidence for 80% plus #01
The horizontal measures the CORE score at the first session.
The vertical measures the CORE score at the final session or from follow up.

Scores below 10 measure good emotional health and so recovery.
From 10-15 is mild distress
From 15-20 is moderate
From 20-25 is moderately severe
Above 25 is severe

The clients who were not part of this CORE evaluation were the high school students I see, private clients who are children and teenagers and those who do not have the appropriate profile for CORE (such as couples or those coming for life coaching or specific issues such as phobia relief, to stop smoking or to lose weight).

I am part of the Human Givens Practice Research Network - the most comprehensive nationwide evaluation ever for a single approach to counselling. This is what Bill Andrews (who runs the HGPRN) says of my results:
  • 'Andrew sees four times the number of clients of the 'average' practitioner contributing data. (150 vs 37 mean).
  • His recovery/improvement rate is 88%, a staggering 26% higher than the mean for our service and a match for the very best of national time1/time2 data.
  • Andrew is a member of that rare breed of 'Empirically Supported Therapists', who are brave enough to transparently publish their up to date data that they collect rigorously on ALL of their clients.
  • It is obvious to me that Andrew is not only an exceptionally compassionate therapist but a highly skillful one also, often quickly getting to the heart of the matter with clients, saving time and money.'

Since I started as an HG therapist I have evaluated and logged all the clients I have seen.
  • Over 65% experience significant, strong and as far as I can tell, lasting improvement.
  • Another 15% also feel better, but less noticeably.
  • Under 10% do not stay the course for a multitude of reasons and so are not evaluated.
  • And 10% experience no improvement.
  • And very important - virtually no one feels worse.
